Todd, people will ALWAYS gravitate to the "easy option." If they are led to believe that the easy option is online marketing, they will jump over their warm market and go directly to that (which would be a mistake). So it's a difficult thing.

ONE THING I DO KNOW...is that ALL network marketing companies should be teaching the proper way to grow a network through Facebook. Facebook is changing MLM. Every distributor needs to know how to build a solid network both offline and through Facebook (and perhaps other social media channels...but I would concentrate on Facebook).

Now What? The answers are all over the place. Seek and you shall find. Todd here's my take on it, so many people put it all on their upline / sponsor. But what if the sponsor has some success, but not much, if any? For me it's like a 4th grader going to a 5th grader for an education. No, you have to go to the Professionals, the people who are successful in this business, they've been around for a while paid their dues and now they're reaping the benefits. Now here's the thing. The Todd Falcones, The Ray Higdons, Eric Worre's Dani Johnsons and Diane Hochmans are all their to help and teach us all of the skills necessary to succeed. I have never met a nicer bunch of people that want to see us succeed. The answers are there, people just need to do the home work and make it happen...

Hey Todd, very valid point here! Many of us have this challenge, including myself. You have a few options; one would be to engage the company leadership with your ideas. I found when I did this they were open to hearing from the field. Took it a step further and wrote out a "cold market" recruiting strategy and some online recruiting methods. Result: the brass is reviewing it and gave me the green light to move forward. I would suggest stepping up and engage the leadership with new ideas, and you may have to engage multiple folks. Blaze a trail for others to follow! By the way Todd, where can I pick up a pair of those cool shades? ;-))

I think people/companies who don't teach their new team members to utilize their warm market "the right way" in the beginning are missing the boat.

And on the flip side of that coin...

I think the people/companies who teach only warm market to their team members and not how to "market" whether it be online or offline, are missing the boat.

There has to be a good balance of both and if folks would understand that and get their asses into action...

They wouldn't be so "dazed and confused."

We are all marketing and at the end of the day all of us want to sell stuff, and lots of stuff like you said. ;-) To "prey' on people's fears for a quick buck is so short sighted. If you have to lie and cheat to get that next check, you may make a lot of money, but will certainly not build anything sustainable. I hate being "pitched" and I hate it when someone knows I'm happy with company, yet tries to tell me everything that is "wrong" with it and why theirs is so much better. Yuck! When this happens to me, I see this as desperation. I have to say I like that you, Eric Worre and others are all about marketing with class and educating people that this is a very viable and reputable industry. I suppose there will always be a snake in the grass, though.

A good point to discuss on. From my last 6 years of experience with Network Marketing Industry (in one & only company), I have seen this marketing strategy both online and offline. Many a times some new Network Marketing companies sprouting here in India (some of these companies are built by ex-leaders of our company) tried to steal distributors from our company using these 'negative-spreading' strategy. And the most funny and strange thing is that their presentation consists of 1% about their opportunity & 99% of shortcomings ( imaginary) of our company. What happened was- many distributor without solid foundation shifted to these hot deals, but to their misfortune almost all of these companies died within a year of two. The reason? Their own negativity ate their own creation. When I dealt this situation in my first year of Network Marketing, it was a bit tough for me being a 19 year old. But then I came to know that the same incident happened to many legitimate companies worldwide. But the worst effect of these strategies is - as a whole Network Marketing profession gets a bad reputation due to these few nonsense companies/networkers.
Seen similar situation online too - "The little dirty secret your upline and your company are hiding from you- Only for x$ - You don't have to make calls, recruit,..." now an experienced Network Marketer knows that these stuffs are bullshit but what about a new person who started his dream journey in this amazing profession? He can get confused, mislead and even it can bring a full stop to his Network Marketing career too.
If we have something good to share/teach or even sale why don't we just educate people? Teach better methods? Warn about the common mistakes? Let people decide themselves about their uplines and company. if they are educated enough about our profession, they can tell by themselves. They don't need an outsider brain-washer. I really appreciate what you, Network Marketing Pro, Randy Gage Fan Club Page, Jordan Adler, NetworkingTimes.com, Mark Yarnell, Richard Bliss Brooke and many others are doing - educating everyone about the profession and then selling your quality products. And that's absolutely fine! Wish everyone else learn from you guys.
(Sorry if the comment became too lengthy :-)

I agree Todd it goes way too far to being a victim of 'your Network Marketing company is lying to you'. or 'Network Marketing is set up so most people fail and the company loves this as they get to make money from it'. I think someone like yourself who totally stands by their products and has massive numbers following you shows the results of your work. Had a person the other day saying these things to me over the phone to learn his marketing secrets. I checked out his pictures on facebook and even though he stated he was making 40K a month his pictures of his apartment didn't show it. I think being truthful is important. I do Network Marketing and make more now then I did at my last full time job but don't lie to someone that I am making something I am not. This is a lack of integrity. I realize Network Marketing is a legit profession and like every profession you have to acquire more and more skill sets and improve. I am also very happy to receive your insiders secrets to recruiting professionals to improve my skills. Which I just purchased. I think Network Marketing is an art similiar to music. I know hardly anyone who is a Jimi Hendrix when they first pick up the guitar. It takes thousands of hours to get those skills. This is my 2 cents. Thanks for being there and doing what you Todd.

Dude... couldn't agree more. Sometimes it's JUST a subject line... like yours to this video .. I am COOL with that bro... It's when someone outright says something like your Upline Is Lyin' To ya and YOU are the faithful upline that gives his all... that pisses me off!

Man... there is a such a fine line between MARKETING and PROMOTING that it's a hard call... BUT I do agree that it feeds on peeps emotions when they may not be in a good place already!

As always, bro ... YOU ROCK!

Personally, if someone approaches me with this type of marketing, I am actually turned off. I don't even want to hear their talk. I'm not a partaker of working off people's fears.
