In this episode we're tackling the common hurdle of Getting Rid of the Fear of Rejection, including...
Let’s talk about getting rid of the fear of rejection. In all honesty, rejection sucks. As a matter of fact, no one likes it...it just doesn’t feel good.
Human beings thrive on being wanted, needed, valued and appreciated. It’s built into our DNA. Conversely, being pushed away, not accepted, not included, denied…those are things no one wants.
Fear of rejection is super common in network marketing. To tell the truth, you get a lot of people that say NO. They say no to looking, joining, buying, meetings; they pull no-show; and they ghost you, just to name a few of the top no's.
Since we can all agree that being rejected doesn’t feel good...how do we get rid of rejection?
Six Strategies for Getting Rid of the Fear of Rejection:
1. Reframe Rejection
This is my favorite strategy for getting rid of rejection. To start with, just don’t take it personal; it’s not you. Afterall, you’re not asking someone out on a date, right? No, actually in contrast, you’re simply asking someone to consider taking a look at your product, service or business. In fact, YOU ARE NOT the product, service or business.
fdAnd, to me a simple reframe is the easiest way to rid your life of rejection in this profession.
2. Practice Positive Self-Talk
Secondly, talking negatively to yourself is not productive. Telling yourself you’re a loser, going nowhere, you’re a nobody or not worth it…that’s just not healthy.
For this reason, be very aware of your inner dialogue. If need be, change your language and self-talk. Make it positive, powerful and uplifting. Moreover, encourage your inner soul; it listens.
But, when negative self-talk creeps in it can be helpful to take a step back and remind yourself of past successes and strengths.
3. Embrace Vulnerability
Rejection is often associated with vulnerability. However, vulnerability is not a weakness, but rather a strength. With this in mind, you are free to be open and authentic and yet still thrive. "Sticks and stones" my friend. When we allow ourselves to be vulnerable, we open ourselves up to new experiences and opportunities. In fact, it can be helpful to reframe vulnerability as a positive attribute and embrace it as a necessary and meaningful part of growth and personal development.
4. Practice Mindfulness
I’m no yogi, but I practice yoga. And, my wife meditates. Practicing mindfulness also be an extremely effective way to overcome the fear of rejection.
Mindfulness is the practice of being present and fully engaged in the moment. Subsequently, by focusing on the present it becomes easier to let go of fears about the future and/or regrets about the past.
5. Take Action
Here is another personal preference in ridding your life of rejection. Just do more. What do I mean by that? Prospect more, recruit more, act more, etc. In short, if you want to get yourself to a place where you really don’t care whether someone says yes or no to you, fill your pipeline. Consequently, you simply won’t have the time to wallow in the worries of rejection.
6. Practice Resilience
If you get knocked down, get back up. You can't stop a person that never stops. Thus, that’s why it’s called UNSTOPPABLE. Become an unstoppable force...never stop or give in.
In fact, the difference between successful and unsuccessful people in this profession is often defined by their ability to bounce back from setbacks.
In summary, the bottom line is that we all have to deal with rejection at one time or another, whether you're brand new to the business or a seasoned pro. It’s those who choose to respond to the situation differently that rid their life of the fear of rejection for good.
