In this Fearless Networker Spotlight we're featuring Brandon and Lynette Cunningham, traditional business professionals who took the leap into Network Marketing and built an organization of 112,000 people.
The Fearless Networker: Welcome! Let’s jump in and get to know one another a bit better. Do you have any unusual or impressive talents you’d like to share with us? Or is there something about yourself that would surprise everyone?
Brandon Cunningham: I used to race professional motocross and taught it for years.
Lynette Cunningham: I used to be a model. I'd say the surprising thing about us as a couple is that we got married at the ages of 18 and 21. We've been together for 25 years!
The Fearless Networker: What would you say is the most courageous thing you have done in your life?
Brandon & Lynette Cunningham: Taking the leap into Network Marketing from a traditional business background that provided a six-figure income while being responsible for young kids.
The Fearless Networker: What's the last thing you geeked out about? Or are you technologically challenged?
Brandon Cunningham: I'm geeked out about figuring out that I can control my boat radio from the water on my Apple watch…that FIRES me up!
Lynette Cunningham: I am definitely technologically challenged. I rely heavily on Brandon to assist in that department.
The Fearless Networker: What were you doing BEFORE you got involved in Network Marketing?
Brandon & Lynette Cunningham: We owned five corporations; three related to investment real estate, one related to interior restoration of automobiles and one selling franchises of the interior restoration business.
The Fearless Networker: How did you FIRST get introduced to the Network Marketing profession and, honestly, what was that experience like for you?
Brandon & Lynette Cunningham: We received an email, followed by a phone call from our cousin in Texas. We listened to the information only because we have respect for her and didn't want to tell her “no”. It seemed like something that we could miss the boat on if we didn't get involved, so we said “yes”. In a short time, we realized it had huge potential. After attending our first corporate event four months in, we made a decision to give it our all.
The Fearless Networker: Okay, now for the stats…how long have you been involved in the Network Marketing profession, how long have you been with your current company, how many people have you personally enrolled into your company and what is the current size of your organization?
Brandon & Lynette Cunningham: We've been involved for eight and a half years and are still with our first company; hitting the top rank of that company in a little over four years. We personally have enrolled 54 people and currently have an organization of 112,000 people.
The Fearless Networker: What does a typical day in your life look like?
Brandon & Lynette Cunningham: Coffee, reading and/or studying at 6:30 a.m. Exercise 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. Breakfast and head to the home office 8:30 to 9:00 a.m.
Our kids are home schooled and are up between 6:30-8:00 a.m. They are “in school” from 8:30 a.m. to 12-30 p.m. At 12:30 p.m. we all have lunch together then Brandon heads back to the home office.
Lynette is in and out of the home office and running kids to tennis, guitar, etc. Dinner together is around 6 p.m. Sometimes we host or attend webinars or opportunity meetings at night.
The advantage and disadvantage to this business is that you can always work. We have to work at NOT working because our nature is to be productive. If we have a lot of work to do in the evening, we try to do some fun things with the kids in the afternoon to compensate.
The Fearless Networker: What is your favorite book(s)? How about your favorite genre of music? (If you want to throw in the first concert you attended, go for it! (My first concert was Rush, June 6, 1979 at the Seattle Center Coliseum.)
Brandon & Lynette Cunningham: #1-the Bible and #2-Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. We like all genres of music except classical. Brandon's first concert was Captain & Tennille (age 5) and Lynette's was The Pointer Sisters (age 11).
The Fearless Networker: Tell us about a time, no matter what age, that you wanted something so badly, regardless if it was big or small, that you were unstoppable in pursuing it. What obstacles did you overcome to reach that goal?
Brandon Cunningham: A dirt bike at the age of eight.
The Fearless Networker: How has being involved in Network Marketing CHANGED YOUR LIFE, professionally, personally or both?
Brandon & Lynette Cunningham: It's changed everything! It's given us more financial options than we ever had before Network Marketing. We have personally changed as well because we have the choice to raise our kids the way we want. We've recognized the importance of personal development and constantly stretching yourself outside of your comfort zone. Because of our experiences, we can teach our kids the power of having the right mindset.
The Fearless Networker: What gives you joy and/or feeds your passion?
Brandon & Lynette Cunningham: What gives us joy is seeing our kids happy. Being involved in Network Marketing has helped to make that possible. Additionally, helping others to accomplish things that they didn't think was possible.
The Fearless Networker: What is your biggest fear?
Brandon & Lynette Cunningham: Regret.
The Fearless Networker: If you are full-time, how long did it take you to go from being a part-time Network Marketer to going full-time? Were there any hesitations, struggles or roadblocks?
Brandon & Lynette Cunningham: We went full time in two and a half years. There were plenty of hesitations, struggles and roadblocks along the way. We wanted to quit about seven months in despite earning a couple thousand a month. We went through three corporate executive turn overs and endured having our team poached multiple times.
The Fearless Networker: What makes you happiest and most effective when working with others?
Brandon & Lynette Cunningham: What makes us happiest is when others recognize that Network Marketing is for real and decide to go all in. And, helping others to identify what makes them happy and then putting a business plan together to help them achieve it.
The Fearless Networker: What are the failures that you most cherish?
Brandon & Lynette Cunningham: Losing momentum as a company and being a part of getting it back.
The Fearless Networker: Let’s end on this note: What’s one solid piece of advice that you’d give someone entering this profession for the very FIRST time? And/or the best advice you’ve ever received?
Brandon & Lynette Cunningham: It's the hardest thing you'll ever do, but it's worth it! People buy YOU before your products. It's better to be rich than right! If you treat it like a business, you'll get paid like it's a business.
The Fearless Networker: Great advice; thanks for sharing. It's been fun getting to know a little more about you two.
