Does a Written Business Plan Really Create More Success?

There's always lots of talk about the importance of goal setting in business.  The idea of having a”written business plan”, something specific and on paper, versus simply a plan or an idea in your head.  What's your take on it?

I'm very curious to know from you what has worked best for you in the past.  I was a bit surprised the other day when I posted something on Facebook, only to find out that a good chunk of people have no plan at all…not a written one anyhow.

So…here's the whole purpose of this post…to start a conversation and some interaction with you about written plans and objectives versus things that are in your head.

Have you had more successes in the past with things you've written out and planned, or have you succeeded more by simply attacking an idea, business or concept with nothing written out at all?

Think about how incredibly valuable it will be for people to read the responses from individuals who take time to answer this question.  I'm sure you know many people like I do who have never written out a plan or goal in their life.  And…just to be clear with my question here, I'm not necessarily talking about a Formal Business Plan that you might use if you were starting a brick and mortar business and taking it to a bank to get a business loan.

As you move into the New Year, do you have a plan that is written down or not?
How have you done in the past with WRITTEN PLANS versus the mere idea of doing something great?
