In this Fearless Networker Spotlight, we're featuring Michelle Barnes, a single mom of two energetic boys who has enjoyed longevity and success in Network Marketing. Now, she shares her experience with the TFN readers!
The Fearless Networker: Michelle, we've known each a long time! Just how long have you been involved in the Network Marketing profession?
Michelle Barnes: I have been in the profession for a while…20 years! Of course, I started when I was four…go ahead, do the math. LOL!
The Fearless Networker: Ha, ha! I'm not touching that comment. During your career, how many people have you personally sponsored?
Michelle Barnes: Gosh, in 20 years?! Literally, hundreds! For example, in a previous company I personally sponsored over 600 individuals.
The Fearless Networker: That rocks! When you sponsor those types of numbers, what does your organization look like?
Michelle Barnes: I have built teams of over 30,000 customers and distributors.
The Fearless Networker: When it comes to building an organization, what are some of the most effective actions you’ve taken?
Michelle Barnes: Building an organization takes consistency. And use the systems, for sure! Lastly, lead by example.
The Fearless Networker: Can you provide any insight into your strategy of successfully recruiting new people into your organization?
Michelle Barnes: When starting out, go to your warm market. Then turn your cold market into a warm market.
I've had strong relationships my whole life and am consistently building relationships off- and on-line. I believe you’re either punished or rewarded for the life you led prior to Network Marketing.
The Fearless Networker: Are there specific actions for growing your business you’ve found to be exceptionally successful?
Michelle Barnes: Launching people’s businesses instead of just signing them up is key. Teach people the invitation right away. And, teach distributors to use the tools and the system.
The Fearless Networker: What was your greatest roadblock on the way to achieving success in this profession?
Michelle Barnes: My greatest roadblock in the beginning was other people’s opinions.
The Fearless Networker: That's a common roadblock; thank you for sharing. How has being involved in Network Marketing changed your life?
Michelle Barnes: What changed my life is the personal development that accompanies this profession. Every single day, for the past 20 years, I am always striving to be better.
Network Marketing has allowed me to make millions being my own boss. And, most importantly, to be a single mom who is VERY involved in my boys' lives.
The Fearless Networker: Did you have any fear when starting your Network Marketing career 20 years ago?
Michelle Barnes: Fear of success…not wanting people to think I thought I was better than them.
The Fearless Networker: That is also a common thought, one I've heard time and time again. Do you have any suggestions on how to make Network Marketing a lasting and profitable business to pursue for a lifetime as you are doing?
Michelle Barnes: Absolutely! First it starts with a decision. Quitting can’t be an option. Be willing to really master the skills, to master your craft, to get really good at this business. Realize that this is a REAL business and that ANY successful business is going to take time, money and energy to build. I always say, Network Marketing is a personal growth company with a pay plan attached to it. The more you grow personally, the more money you’ll make!
The Fearless Networker: What kind of advice would you give someone entering this profession for the very first time?
Michelle Barnes: Action gets rid of doubt! Consistency! Never Quit!
The Fearless Networker: And commitment? Because, you've clearly got it! What's one of your favorite business books?
Michelle Barnes: There’s SO many! It depends on where you are in your life. If I had to choose one, it would be Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Okay, two…You Were Born Rich by Bob Proctor. My list is forever long!

The Fearless Networker: Michelle, if you could share anything that would MASSIVELY impact the people reading this, what would it be?
Michelle Barnes: It’s going to be really challenging sometimes! Don’t let the highs be so high, or the lows be so low. I have a story I share about becoming the “spin master”…it’s everything!
The Fearless Networker: Last question; what’s the best piece of advice you’ve received that’s served you well in business?
Michelle Barnes: Act as if….
The Fearless Networker: On that note, it's a wrap! Thanks for your sharing your experiences and wisdom Michelle.
