Servant Leadership What is it?

Stop Building Followers. Start Developing Leaders. | Ben Dixon on Servant Leadership

There are a LOT of people in network marketing who love calling themselves leaders.

They've got the titles, the recognition, the big organizations, and maybe even the big checks to go along with it.

But here's my question.

Are they actually DEVELOPING leaders...or are they simply collecting followers?

Because there's a massive difference between the two.

In this episode of The Fearless Networker Show, I sit down with Ben Dixon, who was the CEO of a software company that has spent the past 17 years providing technology and resources to the network marketing profession.

Ben recently invited me to participate in a project called Servant Leaders, a phenomenal book featuring insights from experienced leaders who understand that REAL leadership isn't about how many people follow you. It's about how many people become better because of you.

And that's exactly what we're talking about in this interview.

Servant Leadership in Network Marketing: It's Not About YOU

After nearly four decades in this profession, I've seen just about every leadership style imaginable.

I've seen people build massive organizations that completely depend on one person to keep everything moving. And I've seen leaders develop incredible teams of independent, capable people who know how to get things done without constantly being told what to do.

Which organization would YOU rather build?

One of the biggest mistakes network marketers make is confusing leadership with doing everything for everybody.

They think serving their team means being available 24/7, handling every objection, closing every prospect, and constantly motivating people who aren't willing to motivate themselves.

That's not servant leadership. That's babysitting.

Great leaders don't create dependency. They develop capability.

They teach people how to think, how to communicate, how to take action, and ultimately, how to lead others.

And perhaps most importantly, they lead by EXAMPLE.

You Can't Pretend Your Way Into Great Leadership

Here's something else that Ben and I dig into during our conversation.

The difference between TALKING about building a business and actually DOING THE WORK.

We have no shortage of people in network marketing who love attending events, posting motivational quotes, talking about their goals, and telling everybody how big their business is going to become.

But how many are consistently doing the daily activities that actually produce results?

Having conversations. Making invitations. Following up. Helping people get started. Teaching the skills. Developing people.

That's where leadership happens.

Not on a stage. Not in your social media bio. And certainly not because your company gave you a fancy title.

Your people will learn more from watching what you consistently DO than listening to what you occasionally SAY.

Build Leaders Who Don't Need You

One of the most important measurements of effective network marketing leadership is what happens when you're NOT around.

Does your organization continue to function? Are people taking initiative? Are they helping others? Are they capable of making decisions and moving their businesses forward?

Or does everything stop because everybody is waiting for YOU?

The ultimate goal of servant leadership isn't to make yourself indispensable.

It's to help other people become successful, independent leaders themselves.

Ben has spent nearly two decades working alongside network marketing companies, and he brings a tremendous amount of perspective to this conversation.

Between his experience in the technology side of our profession and my nearly four decades in the field and on the training stage, there's plenty to unpack.

If you're building a network marketing organization, leading a team, or simply trying to become someone others can look to for guidance, this conversation is worth your time.
